Romora Bay Club
I have been to Harbour Island 3 times now and plan to return many times in the future. My experience on my most recient visit with Romora bay and its owner have however left a bad taste in my mouth. Confirmed reservation where lost, room rates not accurate, extra charges on the bill, and a very rude owner who would yell at his staff, and be very inappropriate with his guests, where all experienced. There are much better and more hospitable resorts for cheaper on this island. Make a smart move and stay elsewhere!
My husband & I made reservations to stay at the Romora Bay Club a few weeks before our stay in January 2002. We spoke with one of the owners who took our reservation personally & then sent us a confirmation by e-mail at our request. After a full & rather exhausting day of travel we arrived at the hotel & are told by the owner's wife that my huband & I have a little problem. They gave our room away!!!!!! They had a wedding party staying on their property & this party had some unexpected last minute additional guests & so they gave our room to them after we had been confirmed weeks before & a deposit was paid to reserve our specific room!!!!! We were outraged. To top it off, they knew about this for days & never bothered to contact us beforehand to tell us what was going on. Instead, they decide to tell us after we have arrived late, tired & with no other place to go. We couldn't believe it when we argued with the owner & she told us "That's business. We are making more money of the wedding party than you." She offered to arrange for us to be put up in a lower grade, far more inferior property right in from of where the island's water taxis take off all day. The noisiest & dirtiest part of the island away from the beach that we came for. Not the idea we had for a relaxing holiday. We suggested that they put us up in one of the other better properties on the island such as the Pink Sands to make up for it as we had already paid them a deposit & it was their wrong doing that caused this situation. They obviously thought we were dumb tourists & tried to tell us that the Pink Sands was not a nice hotel. We are sure they said so because they did not want to pay the Pink Sands prices to make up for what they did wrong. My husband & I were forced to scramble on our cell phone, standing in the street with our luggage trying to call hotels that might have availability. The Coral Sands was nice enough to take us in, give us their honeymoon suite for the same price that Romora Bay was charging. They gave us excellent service. In the end, it was all for the best. The Romora Bay property was in need of renovation & seemed to be a very noisy property, loud music until late, etc. Nothing special. We DO NOT recommend Romora Bay Club to anyone. They obviously only care about making money & have nothing to offer in the way of customer service or honoring their reservations. For shame. |
